WHS Manager

About the Role 

Through continued growth, we have an outstanding opportunity for a WHS Manager to join our client’s safety focused company. You will be responsible for providing WHS leadership in a diverse range of safety projects and responsibilities.

Key aspects of this role will be to promote workplace safety initiatives across the company through planning, directing and implementing the company’s WHS programs. The WHSM will be responsible for developing and leading a team of trusted safety professionals to drive change to the organisation.

Responsibilities 

  • Monitor relevant legislation and standards and make recommendations to the CAQS Manager regarding appropriate strategies and systems to meet legal compliance requirements across Safety Acts, Regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Identify areas of significant WHS/site risk and recommend strategies to mitigate and manage the risk adhering to current legislation and International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) & Australian Standards (AS).
  • Manage the implementation of agreed organisational strategies and systems, facilitating, and working cooperatively with others involved in the implementation process.
  • Working with CAQS ensure compliance and certification to ISO45001 Safety Management Systems, AS3745 Emergency Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management.
  • Contribute to Health, Safety & Wellbeing projects, and research into the application of best practice WHS, either individually or as part of a team including policy development, organisation wide WHS & Risk compliance audits approaches.
  • Provide advice and assistance with training to line managers and staff across a broad range of sits issues, such as:
    • WHS legislation and codes of practice
    • Train managers on HSW responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation.
    • Risk management
    • Conduct of HSW audits
    • Support of HSW representatives
  • Assist production and facility Managers with risk management investigations and audits as required.
  • Monitor incidents and injuries reported by HDA employees.
  • Identify trends in Workplace incidents and injuries and instigate relevant WHS prevention initiatives.
  • Lead with the relevant manager/supervisor to ensure communication of notifiable Incidents.
  • Manage the hazardous substances and dangerous goods registers and control.

Qualifications 

  • Knowledge and experience of WHS principles, including environmental issues
  • Working knowledge of WorkSafe Codes of Practice and relevant regulations & legislation
  • Experienced in ISO 45001 certification and compliance within a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience working in a complex environmental (ISO 14001) environment of Dangerous Goods and Explosives.
  • Experience in AS3745 Emergency Management.
  • High level interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to shape problem and issue resolution.
